CBS Special Cancelled - Press Release

Below is a Press Release given out by CBS concerning their unfortunate decision to cancel their upcoming special Michael Jackson: Number ones, the special was going to feature the video for One More Chance.

"Given the gravity of the charges against Mr. Jackson, we believe it would be inappropriate at this time to broadcast an entertainment special.

However, we are very mindful that Mr. Jackson is innocent until proven guilty. We will consider broadcasting the special after the due process of the legal system runs its course.

A replacement program for the special will be announced at a later time."

Michael Jackson To Confront Unfounded Charges

Michael Jackson's Official Spokesman, Stuart Backerman, has released the following statement on Michael's behalf:

The outrageous allegations against Michael Jackson are false. Michael would never harm a child in any way. These scurrilous and totally unfounded allegations will be proven false in a courtroom. Naturally, the implications are distressing to everyone who hears them, which is precisely the point.

We are disturbed by the levity of the environment surrounding the announcement of these very serious charges. When the evidence is presented and the allegations proven to be malicious and wholly unfounded, Michael will be able to put this nightmare behind him.

Michael through his attorneys, led by Mark Geragos, has already made arrangements with the District Attorney to return to Santa Barbara to immediately confront and prove these charges unfounded.

Stuart Backerman Thanks Fans For Support

Below is a statement made by Michael Jackson's spokesman, Stuart Backerman, and is thanking fans for their support:

"Dear Fans all over the world,

I want you all to know that we appreciate the many, many calls and emails of support from the fans. It's in a situation like this that MJ's true friends come to the fore. Below is my first statement to the media, which at this point is merely an observation. As we determine the substance of the police action today, we'll respond, believe me!

Stuart"

And here is the original statement to the media:

"LOS ANGELES - We cannot comment on law enforcement's investigation because we do not yet know what it is about.

We can comment on the malignant horde of media hounds claiming to speak for Michael on this and many other issues. A rogue's gallery of hucksters and self-styled "inside sources" have dominated the airwaves since reports of a search of Neverland broke, speculating, guessing and fabricating information about an investigation they couldn't possibly know about.

Michael himself said "I've seen lawyers who do not represent me and spokespeople who do not know me speaking for me. These characters always seem to surface with a dreadful allegation just as another project, an album, a video, is being released."

Michael will, as always, cooperate fully with authorities in any investigation even as it is conducted, yet again, while he is not home."

Supporting Michael Jackson

Dear Fans,

Further to developments at Michael Jackson¹s Neverland Valley Ranch earlier today where a police search was conducted pertaining to an investigation, MJNI would like this opportunity to request calm and resilience among the fan community.

On behalf of his loyal fans across the globe, we also want to extend our love and support to Michael Jackson at this difficult time.

Michael is currently in Las Vegas, not in California as some news outlets have reported.

On a personal note, I would request that fans do not contact the MJNI office to ask questions about the events of today. As soon as we have any official information we will release the news immediately.

Reuters: CBS Confirms Plans for Special

Reuters: CBS Confirms Plans for Special One-hour special to air the last day of 'sweeps week'

"As far as CBS is concerned, Ronald Reagan is out, but Michael Jackson is in."

That's exactly how Reuters news service began its article, reporting that Viacom Inc.-owned CBS has officially confirmed that it has scheduled a one-hour special chronicling the career of the King of Pop, set to air on 26 November - the final night of the ratings "sweep."

According to Reuters, "plans for the production remain fuzzy, but the special is expected to consist mostly of archival footage tracing the singer from his Motown days as the young lead singer of the Jackson 5 through his emergence as one of the recording industry's biggest solo stars."

As MJNI previously reported, Michael will NOT be performing live for the special. Michael's spokesperson Stuart Backerman told Reuters the closest Michael will come to an "in-person" appearance during the show will be a newly produced video for his latest single, One More Chance.

A previous November sweeps special celebrating Michael's 30 years as a solo artist was a major ratings success for CBS two years ago, attracting more than 25 million viewers. In February of this year, several networks aired a number of special programs focusing on the performer's private life.

"The addition of Jackson to the CBS sweeps schedule midway through the month comes as a welcome programming bonus after the network dumped a highly promoted made-for-TV movie about former President Ronald Reagan," said Reuters. "CBS canceled the TV movie and sold it to sister cable network Showtime amid criticism from political conservatives that the docudrama was biased against Reagan."
