The biggest selling and most influential video of all time, was
almost not released. Jackson, a strict Jehovah’s Witness,
was told he would be shunned if the film did come out. Jackson
originally asked that the video be destroyed but cooler heads
prevailed. A disclaimer that the video in no way endorses the
occult.
The video, released in 1983, featured narrative by Jackson’s
idol, Vincent Price, and was directed by John Landis (who had
directed the movie American Werewolf in London). During the video,
Jackson transforms into a zombie and a werewolf.
Little known fact: Ola Ray, who co-stars with
Jackson, was a Playboy centerfold. She has since said in interviews
that she tried not to let Jackson know that about her, because
she wanted the part.
