“Scream” was written by and starred Michael and his
younger sister, Janet Jackson.
The song became the first in Billboard history to debut in the
top five of the pop chart. It peaked at #5 in the pop chart, #2
on the R&B chart, and #1 on the dance chart.
The video, with a heavy sci-fi theme, shows the siblings in
ultra-tight spacesuit-type clothing and features a variety of
anime and pop culture references (such as Andy Warhol’s
self-portrait).
The video, which cost $7,000,000 U.S. (5,328,886.21 EUR, £3.5897,000)
to make, is the most expensive video of all time. The video won
several MTV awards and a Grammy for Best Music Video.
