This is one of the most controversial films of Michael’s
career for several reasons. Many fans praise the video for the
montage of sequences in which Jackson is choreographed dancing
with people of different cultures (including African, Russian,
and Native American).
Michael also walks through a visual collage of fire as he denounces
the Ku Klux Klan (I ain’t scared of no sheets).
At the end of the video, various people of different ethnicities
meld into each other.
Controversies surround the intro to the extended version of the
song’s intro in which Macaulay Culkin (a close friend of
Michael’s and the godfather of two of his children) is yelled
at by an enraged father for playing rock music too loudly. The
sound shatters the windows and propels the father into space.
Michael smashes a car with a sledgehammer and also show unzips
his trousers in two of the video’s most controversial scenes.
Little known fact: The song features a musical
intro by guitarist Slash.
