Girlfriend Song Information

Girlfriend was originally written by Paul McCartney for Michael, but it ended up being recorded by Paul McCartney and his band Wings going onto their album in 1978.

Quincy Jones Michael's producer was unaware that the song had originally been written for Michael, suggested it go onto the Off the Wall album in 1979.

It was released as the fifth and final single off the Off the Wall album in the UK only.

Girlfriend only hit number 41 in the charts and came off the charts after only 5 weeks.

After Girlfriend, Paul and Michael did some more work together from The Girl is Mine for Michael's hit album Thriller, to some tracks such as Say, Say, Say and The Man for Paul's album Pipes Of Peace.

They stopped working together in the 1980's when Michael brought the ATV catalogue which had the rights to a number of Beatles singles.
