Jermaine Jackson

Jermaine Jackson has most recently and notably been in the media for singing his younger brother, Michael Jackson's, rendition of Smile at his memorial service. His performance was so touching, heart felt and perhaps heart-wrenching to watch for those who loved Michael Jackson and have memories of the Jackson Five performing during their prime.

The Jackson Five
Jermaine was born on December 11, 1954 in Gary, Indiana. He was a member of the Jackson Five but would not join The Jacksons who were formed in 1976 when the group left Motown and signed with Epic records. Many people believed that he stayed at Motown because he was married to Hazel Gordy, the daughter of Motown’s owner, Berry Gordon. However, Jermaine’s strained relationship with his father may have had something to do with the split from the group as well.

Solo Efforts
Jermaine would experience some success while on his own. The songs, “Let's Be Young Tonight”, which was released in 1975 and “Daddy’s Home” in 1972, would make some noise on the charts. “Let’s Get Serious” was a hit and reached number 10 on the soul and pop charts. Though he would never experience the same amount of success as his brother Michael Jackson did in his solo career, he did experience some. Let me Tickle Your Fancy was a top 20 song on the pop charts in 1972.

Jermaine would eventually leave Motown as well and sign with Arista Records in 1983. He had two hits with that label including “Do What You Do” and “Dynamite”. He would eventually join The Jacksons on their Victory World Tour in 1984. However, it would be eight years after they were formed. The Jackson Five became the Jacksons when they signed with Epic Records. Another great success in 1984 involved a song he sang with Michael Jackson called “Tell Me I’m not Dreaming”, would reach number one on the charts. “Don't Take It Personal” which was released in 1989 of would also do very well, climbing up to number 1 on the billboard R&B singles chart. Since then, Jermaine Jackson has been pretty quiet on the music front.

In 2007 Jermaine was a house on the Uk version of Celebrity Big Brother. He finished runner up to Shilpa Shetty.

Jermaine Jackson’s Personal Life
In his personal life, Jermaine Jackson has been married officially three times. His initial marriage was to Hazel Gordy, the daughter of former Motown owner, Barry Gordy. They had three children Jeremy, Jermaine Jr. and Autumn. He would then have two children, Jordan and Jaimy with his girlfriend Margaret Maldonado. This was considered a common law marriage. He was then married to Alejandra Genevieve Oiaza who was once the wife of his brother Randy Jackson. The marriage would later be considered null and void because she was still married when she “married” Jermaine Jackson. They had two children together named Jermajesty and Jaffar. In 2004, he married Haleema Rasheed.

While Jermaine Jackson grew up as a Jehovah’s Witness he would convert it to Islam in the 1980s. This occurred after he spent some time in the country of Bahrain.
