Motown 25 - Michael Jackson and The Jacksons
Year: 1983

Motown 25 was an event commemorating 25 years of Motown records. It bought together all of Motown's biggest stars, including Diana Ross, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson and many more.

However, the main highlight of the show was Michael Jackson performing with his brothers, and in particular his solo performance of Billie Jean, during which he performed the Moonwalk for the first time. With his new trademark fedora, glitter glove and white socks he literally blew everyone away.

In this video we see Michael performing with all his brothers, including Jermaine who had left the group to stay with Motown and Randy who had joined when they moved labels to Epic records as The Jacksons.

The Jacksons performed a medley of there early Jackson 5 hits, "I Want You Back", "The Love You Save", "Never Can Say Goodbye" and a full version of "I'll Be There".

After this, The Jackson's left the stage and Michael performed his never to be forgotten Billie Jean,

Motown 25 - Michael Jackson Billie Jean
Year: 1983

As the brothers leave, Michael takes center stage saying, "I have to say, they were the good ole days. I love those songs. Those were magic moments with all my brothers, including Jermaine." He pauses. "But, you know, those were the good songs. I like those songs a lot. But especially, I like... the new songs." You could just see and feel the difference in Michael as he spoke those words. Acknowledging the past but moving on to the future with determination and confidence.

His performance of his number one hit Billie Jean is one of the most iconic moments of Michael's career. You can even hear the shock and awe gasps of the watching audience. It was the first time anyone had seen a performance like this. During it, Michael performs the Moonwalk and tip toe pose for the first time. He later stated he was disappointed he didn't hold pose for longer.
